Azalea Still at Honey Bee Golf Course

Azalea has spent the past three days flying back and forth between Honey Bee Golf Course and Rosemont Forest Elementery School along the North Landing River in Virginia Beach. Her data points – YELLOW arrow July 26 at 10:00am, PINK pointer July 27 at 9:00am, GREEN pointer July 28 at 9:00am, and as of this satellite map WHITE arrow July 28 at 2:00pm. It appears that the solar battery in the satellite transmitter Azalea is wearing is beginning to loose power as fewer data points are being recorded each day.

Hope the battery is not wearing out – could be because she refuses to come out of her special shady spots, even when she see’s her favorite photogs out there cooking in the sun while she just chills for hours on end……..

Love the tracking info. Thanks so much for posting. Is it possible that her battery will die altogether, or is there a life expectancy on such batteries? Hope not.

Response – Average life of battery is 3 years and Azalea has had hers for more than that.

I was just beginning to wonder when her battery would begin to wear out. It will be a sad day when we can’t keep track of her :(

Reese..What is keeping her in this area… I see no large bodies of water to catch fish..A big girl does have to eat…
Response – The golf course is on the North Landing River which is FULL of fish. She is getting plenty to eat.

Rats! I think we all were praying the harness would hold and the battery live an extra long time so we could learn where our girl ended up making her permanent home. We have only Azalea, Camelia and NX to follow as wild reminders of beautiful Mom Norfolk. And, since Azalea has sometimes hung out with brother, HK, it’s meant we’ve been able to find him, too!

It would be so interesting to see Azalea nest and become a mother. Would she be a nestoration critic like Mom? Would she regularly raise large broods like Mom? Guess we will never know. sigh…
